Back to School! 2011/2012

Had a wonderful first day with new students.  We read Todd Parr's Otto Goes to School.  In the book Otto gets a blue ribbon for going to school.  We created our own first day of Kindergarten ribbons.   Todd PARR | Books

Curious Creatures!

Here's Angela with a tree frog.  They are sticky!

Ahh! the snake is headed right towards Yutong and Julie, but it knows not to go past the rope.

Wow these boys are brave!

Here are the students with Curious Creatures!  We learned about animals, what they eat and where they live.  The students had an opportunity to interact with them. Even the snakes!!

Make Your Own Playdough

Kids love Playdough! and it is great for building dexterity.  Here is a recipe I have used with some success (although a little sticky).  Do you have a great Playdough recipe?  Feel free to post recipes that have worked for you:

Make Your Own Playdough
1 cup of water

1 cup of salt

a half of cup flour
any color of food coloring
Mix ingredients in pan on a low heat.
When it doughs up remove it from
heat and wait for it to cool.

Rubbery Playdough

2 cups baking soda
1 1/2 cups water
1 cup cornstarch
Mix with a fork until smooth. Boil over medium heat until thick. Spoon onto plate or wax paper.
(here's another recipe for a more rubbery version, put on the play clothes!)

Great Websites!

Here are some websites I enjoy using with my class:

http://www.starfall.com/ - Great site for letter--sound correspondence

http://pbskids.org/  (PBS is something you can always count on to be educational and entertaining, the kids love it and so do I!)
